ST. LUCY, Barbados – The Six Men’s shed was newly renovated September 2017. Outfitted with new concrete floors, Port Ferdinand donated concrete with the help of Cemix Barbados.
“We are pleased to donate these kinds of products and services to our community,” said Bernard Sarme, Group General Manager of UNNA Resorts. “Many members of our community frequent this landmark. It is a popular shed in the heart of the fishing community. Improving these locations is our way of actively supporting the community, families and residents.”
Port Ferdinand donated more than 8 cubic meters of concrete for the shed project. Others recognized are Mr. Rodney Rock (a member of Six Men’s Community) and his crew for providing the labour of removing old concrete and installation of the new. “Mr. Rodney Rock and his crew were tremendous in this project renovation.” said Sarme. “We at Port Ferdinand appreciate their dedication and hard work, and are thrilled to know that we have great people like involved in these community projects.”
The structure is most commonly used as a recreation spot for younger and older men in the community. It is also the home of the Mega Ballers Football Club where players meet regularly. The shed has been at this location for over 20 years and is in desperate need of repair. Due to beach erosion, the foundation of the shed has been compromised.
